Wacky Watercooler’s March Madness Blog Hop

2016 March Banner

Are you ready for a mad, mad Wacky Watercooler’s March Madness Blog Hop?  There are ten of us that will be showing off our “mad” creations, all Stampin’ Up Demonstrators who love our products!  We will each show you at least one fancy fold to delight and inspire you!

As you make your rounds through the blog tour you will see projects from some amazing stampers.  The projects will feature products from the Stampin’ Up! Handmade from the Heart Occasions, Sale-A-Bration and annual catalog to celebrate the occasions in our lives.

Before I share my projects with you, I want to remind you this is a circular Blog Hop. That means that wherever you begin, if you continue to go to the “next” blog on the list, you will eventually wind up right where you first started. You will find the “next” button (and the “previous” button if you want to go backwards) at the end of this post. The “home” button will give you a listing of all participating blogs.

If you have been moving forward through the hop you would have arrived here after visiting Buffy Cooper’s blog.  Isn’t she awesome!

Happy Hopping!

When preparing for this hop I looked at a lot of different fancy folds, and decided to share two fancy folds with you that I had never tried before.

The Swing Easel Card

This first fancy fold is called a Swing Easel Card fold.  It is actually an easy card to do, especially when there are so many videos on the internet to learn from.  I watched this video made by Debbie Henderson.

I can’t believe I only used one stamp to make this card!  Gotta love the Botanical Builder Framelits Dies!  Can you find where I stamped?

Pop Up Slider Card

I have to tell you I really liked making this card.  I love this fold and have more ideas in mind to share later.  You can find a tutorial on Splitcoast Stampers here.  Since I wanted to mat the Birthday Bouquet Designer Series Paper with Old Olive card stock I watched the video at the end of the tutorial rather than following the “pictured” instructions.

I chose to use the beautiful flower in the Birthday Blooms set as my focal point.

Birthday Blooms My Tanglewood Cottage Special Fold

The large flower is stamped on Whisper White paper than colored with markers.  I then cut a portion of the flower away and slipped an oval die under and around it to die cut out the oval shape, leaving a portion of the flower “breaking out” of the oval.  I stamped small flowers which are on the large stamp and then cut them out to add more detail to the card.  The leaves are made using the Bird Builder Punch.  The butterflies are from the Kinda Eclectic set and punched out with the Bitty Butterfly Punch.

When you pull on the ribbon the paper slides up to expose the greetings.  This card also opens like a basic card, I just could not get a good picture to share with you.

3-D Project – Berry Basket

I just recently bought the Berry Basket Die and have been busy making some for our booth at a local scrap-booking and stamping  event.   One of the other demonstrators in the booth made a birthday diansaur cake using the Cutie Pie Thinlits, so I made a basket to compliment the cake as a birthday favor. ( I hope I remember to take a picture of the cake to share with you later!)  We both used the No Bones About It stamp set and the Sprinkles of Life set to make our projects.

When you purchase the Sprinkles of Life set Stampin’ Up! will donate $3.00 to the Ronald McDonald House to keep families together and surrounded by love when their child is receiving medical treatment far away from home.

I filled a cellophane bag with toy dinosaurs to put in the basket and tied off the bag with Burlap Ribbon.

Don’t you think a little boy would just love getting this!

I used my fringed scissors to make the grass along the bottom of the basket.

The Open Sea Going Global

Have you ever wondered what it was like in the age of exploration over the open sea?  The trials and adventures that awaited the sailors must have made a person’s heart beat double time – or at least it would have mine!  I’m thankful that those brave sailors took on the challenge and made it across the ocean, because this land is truly beautiful!

This card features The Open Sea, set from Stampin’ Up!  I have always enjoyed making masculine cards with this set. I added depth to this card by stamping the ship once on Lost Lagoon card stock and then on Very Vanilla. Since I enjoying “fussy cutting”I  cut each of the sails from the Very Vanilla and then adhered them onto the Lost Lagoon piece with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Botanical Blooms

The moment I saw the Botanical Blooms Suite and bundle I knew I wanted to have it.  The Botanical Gardens Designer Series Paper is the perfect match with the stamp set, Botanical Blooms.  And, the Botanical Builder Framelits Dies are fabulous – I love the way they cut.  Several of the dies cut out not only the outline of the flower but also portions of the inside which adds so much dimension. The  center flower dies add the finishing touches to the flower.

For the front of this card, I only used the framelits from the bundle.  I did, however, stamp a leaf on the inside!

Steps to make this card:

  • Using the large, medium, and small five petal flower dies cut the flowers from Crushed Curry card stock.
  • Die cut three “fern” leaves from Mossy Meadow.
  • Die cut  the centers using the center piece dies as you desire.  I used Cajun Craze and Black card stock.
  • Die cut out the third and fourth smallest circles from the Circle Collection Framletits from the Botanical Gardens Designers Series Paper.
  • Stamp “Happy Birthday To You” from the Sunburst Sayings stamp set on Crushed Curry and then punch it out using the 1 1/4″ circle punch.
  • Sponge around the flowers and the greeting circle using Cajun Craze ink.
  • Adhere flower center pieces.
  • Add the pearls to the flower centers and the greeting circle.
  • Using the Large Polka Dots Embossing Folder, place a 5 1/4″ x 4″ piece of Whisper White card stock in it and run the EF through the Big Shot.
  • Adhere the circles cut from the DSP onto the Whisper White card stock.  (I laid out all my pieces first to determine where I wanted everything before adhering things down.)
  • Using the Updated Essentials Paper Piercing template pierce two circles around the outside of the largest circle.  Also pierce the greeting circle.
  • Adhered the leaves and then the flowers to the Whisper White piece.
  • Adhere the greeting circle with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
  • Adhere the Whisper White piece to the Crushed Curry card base.

Traveler in 3D

One of the Creative Crew challenges this month was to use the Going Places Designer Series Paper Stack.  The designs in the stack are so great I have a hard time cutting the paper!   I decided to use the Traveler stamp set with this gorgeous paper.

I used the ship from the Traveler set and cut it out with the Squares Collection Framelits to make the three-dimensional focal point.

How I achieved the 3D Effect

To create the 3D effect on this card I stamped the ship on a piece of Very Vanilla card stock. I then aligned the four smallest square framelits on the piece and ran it through the Big Shot. The first layer is glued down and from there I adhered the pieces down with “layered” Stampin’ Dimensionals.  The center piece has 3 dimensionals stacked on top of each other!

The happy birthday greeting is from the Boys Will Be Boys stamp set and the banner is from the Number of Years stamp set offered by Stampin’ Up!  The background piece was created using a stamp in the Timeless Textures stamp set.

Lost Lagoon, Soft Suede and Very Vanilla card stock are the colors used on this card.
