Wacky Watercooler Blog Hop 3rd Anniversary Celebration

3rd Anniversary Celebration Banner

Welcome!  We are celebrating the 3rd Anniversary of the Wacky Watercooler Blog Hop! We have all the original participants of the very first hop playing along with us – isn’t that exciting!  To celebrate our three years of “hopping” together we have a line up of projects that will inspire you to the moon and back!  Our projects will feature an anniversary card; a stamp set that has survived since being introduced in 2013 (our choice of the Wetlands, Gorgeous Grunge, or Flower Shop sets that were in the first hop); and we will be featuring our version of a CASE from the original blog hop.

How the Wacky Watercooler Blog HopWorks:

This is a circular Blog Hop. That means that wherever you begin, if you continue to go to the “next” blog on the list, you will eventually wind up right where you first started. You will find the “next” button (and the “previous” button if you want to go backwards) at the end of this post. The “home” button will give you a listing of all participating blogs.

If you have been moving forward through the Wacky Watercooler Blog Hop you would have arrived here after visiting Jeannine Tarrio’s blog.  Doesn’t Jean have some sweet projects!

Anniversary Card

My anniversary card was inspired by the Best of Birds Stampin’ Up! set.  Why you might ask…well it has a stamp with the words “Happy Anniversary” in it!  Doesn’t take much to inspire me sometimes!!!

I dug out a very neglected coloring medium from my creative stash to make this card – chalk!  I can’t even remember the last time I used chalk.  I bet it has been at least 5 years.

To make this card I stated by embossing a piece of Soft Sky card stock with the Wonderland EF.  After it was embossed I brayered Tip Top Taupe over the raised image.  I stamped the birds and branch on Whisper White card stock.  The birds were colored in with chalk and the branch was colored in with markers.  After I was finished coloring I die cute out the images with the Birds and Blooms Thinlits.  I then stamped three leaves from the Vintage Leaves set and die cut them out using Leaflets Framelits.  The flowers are die cut using the little flower in the Botanical Builder Framelits.  The greeting from the Best of Birds set is stamped on a piece of vellum.  Once everything was cut out I assembled my card.

The Stamp Set That Survived!

I chose to use the Wet Lands set for this card, it has always been one of my favorite sets.  I paired it with Butterfly Basics and Falling Flowers stamp sets and the May Flowers Framelits (the little sprig).

I chalked this image also.

The little flowers were die cut from the Botanical Builder Framelits.  I used a button shank to cut the ends off of tiny brads then glued the brad heads on using the Fine-Tip Glue Pen.

CASE from the Original Blog Hop

There were so many wonderful projects to case from the original hop that I had to look at all the possibilities several times.   After much deliberation I choose to CASE a project created by Heidi Weaver.  I have never made a Pillow Box, even though I own a Pillow Box punch board.  (Another one of the must have tools – ha!)   Heidi did provide a link to a template to make this adorable box if you don’t have a punch or die.  You can find her template here.

My little Pillow Box is decked out in a floral patterned from the Floral Boutique Designer Series Paper.  The Floral Boutique DSP is a rich Night of Navy color with many beautiful designs.  I used the Thick Baker’s Twine in Whisper White instead of making a band out of card stock to add another element to my box.

Botanical Gift Box MyTanglewoodCottage

Since we are celebrating our 3rd Anniversary I added a strip of Vellum with Happy Anniversary stamped on it.

The Botanical Builder Framelits were used to cut Vellum and Whisper White Card Stock for the flower petals and the center of the flower is cut from Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer Paper.

Thank you Heidi for the inspiration, I like my little box and will have to make more!

It’s time for you to check out what Penny Hanuszak has to created to share with you.  She has such creative ideas that I know you will love!

Thanks for stopping by and joining in the fun with the Wacky Watercooler Blog Hop!

  1. More beautiful cards Marie–love the birds, colors, background-everything!!
Of course, wetlands is always a winner-keep designing my friend.

  2. Oh, I’m so happy I finally noticed the little speech bubble link for comments – I thought I was going to have to email you to tell you how much I love your projects. Your pillow box is so elegant in navy and white, and layering vellum and white for the flower really makes it special.

    • Thank you Kathe. I’m glad you noticed the speech bubble! I really think navy and white are a winner together in the “elegant” department, so I’m happy you like the box! Sometimes what I like is a little “out there” LOL!

  3. Marie, you make me want to dig out my chalks now! I love how you used them. Awesome cards. And that pillowbox is outstanding! I love that DSP and the white flower just takes it over the top.

    • Gail, thank you for stopping by and commenting! When I cleaned and reorganized my craft room a few weeks ago I found so many things I need to use again. I used to love to use chalks so this was fun for me to use them again.

  4. Wow your projects always inspire me so much. I really love the way you’ve used the birds along with the Woodlands EF in your first card, such a nice backdrop. Sometimes it is just one stamp in a set that inspires, and the Happy Anniversary worked very well indeed. I love your Wetlands card it’s beautiful in every way. I also really like the pillow box. What a great gift holder. It looks so pretty in the Night of Navy and White

  5. Marie, as always you created such gorgeous projects! I love the variety of products in that Anniversary card. Using the Woodland ef as your background and then adding those birds on the branch as well as the leaves and flowers really adds so much interest to the card. The details and variety continue with your beautiful Wetlands cards as well. I’m honoured that you chose my little pillow box as your CASE. That Floral Boutique DSP is stunning! Great idea to use the thick Baker’s twine instead of the “girdle band” of the original.

    • Thanks Heidi. I love the way our stamps and thinlits/framelits compliment each other – it allows for my creative juice to flow! Your pillow box was beautiful and really inspired me.

  6. Well, I just can’t choose a favourite!! All of your projects are fabulous as always, Marie! I love the chalked look on the first 2 cards – I’ll have to find out where I stashed my chalks (it’s too bad they were retired). The pillow box is made extra special with the vellum banner, and the Dazzling Diamonds for the flower centre. I’m so glad that we’re all back together for this special 3rd anniversary hop 🙂

    • Isn’t it interesting how we forget those wonderful tools we have, like the chalk! You’re right, it is too bad they retire, they are a great medium for coloring. I’m glad everyone could participate too, it finishes the “circle” of friends we have through Stampin’ Up! I’m thankful to be allowed to be a part of a group of great and talented stampers!! (Thanks for you kind comments.)

  7. Beautiful card Marie! Love the embossed wooded background and the Best Birds colored with chalk. Great idea to pull out those products from the past and show them some love!
