Wacky Watercooler April Blog Hop – Retirement Means Goodbye

Welcome!  It’s that time of year when Stampin’ Up! retires some stamp sets and other products we say goodbye to  and introduces new goodies for us to go “gaga” over. So this hop will feature each of our favorite sets, tools, papers or inks that will be retiring.

How the Wacky Watercooler Blog Hop Works:

Before I show you my projects I wanted to remind you that this is a circular Blog Hop. That means that wherever you begin, if you continue to go to the “next” blog on the list, you will eventually wind up right where you first started. You will find the “next” button (and the “previous” button if you want to go backwards) at the end of this post. The “home” button will give you a listing of all participating blogs.

If you have been moving forward through the Wacky Watercooler Blog Hop you would have arrived here after visiting Heidi Weaver’s blog.  Heidi always amazes me with her creations, so I’m always excited to see what she has created.

In the Meadow

I have to say I was surprised to see the In the Meadow set retire.  The mountains in the this set coordinate with so many other sets and the doe and fawn stamp is just so sweet and is perfect as a focal point – which is why I used for this card!

Do you ever have a hard time figuring out what layout to use?  I sure do, so for this card I dug through my stash of cards and came across this layout that I used for a 2016 Wacky Watercooler Blog Hop.  I guess you could say I CASEd my own card! I even used the same Woodland Textured Impressions EF!

From Land to Sea

Another great set is retiring, From Land to Sea.  It’s not one I have used often, but I really do love it.  I think the turtle stamp is my favorite out of the set. but the jelly fish is a close second.

To make the background behind the turtle I used alcohol inks on glossy white card stock that I have had for years (and I mean years)!  I dropped the ink first on foil in an area about the size of the paper and then pressed the paper into the inks.    Once dry I spritzed it with blending solution.  I made sure to use gloves because I always get ink all over my fingers, and alcohol ink stains everything, including fingers!

I’ve been playing with alcohol inks for the last several days, so I will share some other cards with you later.

Gorgeous Grunge and Papillon Potpourri.

Oh no, not Gorgeous Grunge and Papillon Potpourri.  They can’t be retiring!  Two of my favorite go to sets are leaving the Stampin’ Up! line-up. I just can’t believe it.  If you haven’t gotten these sets in your stamping arsenal, you might want to consider getting them before they are gone.

Since it has me crying the blues over these two sets I decided to make a happy card with them.

To make this card I first stamped butterflies from the Papillon Potpourri set across a piece of Whisper White paper using Melon Mambo, Daffodil Delight, Old Olive, Bermuda Bay inks.  I then stamped the greeting from Watercolor Wings using Melon Mambo in the lower right hand corner.  I then inked the “splat”from Gorgeous Grunge with Daffodil Delight ink and stamped it over the words.  I next stamped the large butterfly from Watercolor Wings using Melon Mambo, Daffodil Delight and Bermuda Bay and die cut the butterfly using the Butterflies Thinlits.  I cut a Whisper White large circle shape using the Swirly Scribbles Thinlits and then adhered it to the card, then adhered the cut butterfly.  Last I assembled the layers of the card. Rhinestones were added for some sparkle!

I hope this card perked you up and made you smile!

Thank you for stopping by My Tanglewood Cottage.

Your next stop is the fabulous Gail Allen. I wonder what her favorite retiring sets will be.

Beautiful You and Mediterranean Moments

Life has been crazy busy around here lately.  Last week was spring break so I had a chance to watch a couple of my grand-kids.  They have so much energy, I wish I could tap into some of it!  But, I did wear them out a bit by taking them for a walk (or should I say “scootering” – if that’s a word!) They zoomed ahead of me with their scooters and them came zooming back until they were ready for a break and some water.  Once back in car and on our drive home they re-energized their batteries.  By the time we arrived home they ready for some time on the trampoline…did I say they have so much energy!

Masking Technique Card

Today I am sharing a card I created using the Beautiful You and the Mediterranean Moments stamp sets and the masking technique.   This card took me less than 15 minutes to make and was inspired by my dear friend, Jackie.

Supplies

  • Beautiful You stamp set
  • Mediterranean Moments
  • 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ Basic Black card stock – card base
  • 5 1/4″ x 4″ Real Red card stock
  • 5″ x 3 3/4″ Whisper White card stock
  • Scrap piece of Real Red and a DSP paper of your choice
  • Tuxedo Black Memento Ink
  • Crumb Cake Marker
  • Blushing Bride Marker
  • Post-it note

To make this card:

  • Stamp the girl with the umbrella from the Beautiful You set on the post it note and cut her out.
  • Stamp the girl with the umbrella from the Beautiful You set on to the Whisper White card stock about an inch from the bottom and centered.
  • Lay the mask over the girl and stamp the largest scene from the Mediterranean Moments set onto the Whisper White card stock while centering it on the paper.
  • Color the girl’s hair with a Crumb Cake marker and her legs and neck with Blushing Bride marker.
  • Stamp the umbrella the girl is holding onto the DSP scrap and cut it out.  Give this some time to dry before cutting it out since it takes a little more time for the ink to absorb into the paper.
  • Stamp the girl onto the Real Red card stock scrap – you don’t need the umbrella on this piece. Then cut out her dress.
  • Adhere the girl’s dress and the umbrella onto the Whisper White card stock.
  • Fold the card base in half and adhere the Real Red and Whisper White layers to it.

I really enjoyed this technique with these sets.  To me this girl should be strolling through the market place, headed to the boutique of her choice to shop! (I do love to shop!)

If you haven’t purchased either of these sets you have until May 31, 2017 before the January/May Occasions Catalog ends.  If you want to purchase them today from me, select the appropriate icon below and it will take you to my online store.
