Traveler in 3D

One of the Creative Crew challenges this month was to use the Going Places Designer Series Paper Stack.  The designs in the stack are so great I have a hard time cutting the paper!   I decided to use the Traveler stamp set with this gorgeous paper.

I used the ship from the Traveler set and cut it out with the Squares Collection Framelits to make the three-dimensional focal point.

How I achieved the 3D Effect

To create the 3D effect on this card I stamped the ship on a piece of Very Vanilla card stock. I then aligned the four smallest square framelits on the piece and ran it through the Big Shot. The first layer is glued down and from there I adhered the pieces down with “layered” Stampin’ Dimensionals.  The center piece has 3 dimensionals stacked on top of each other!

The happy birthday greeting is from the Boys Will Be Boys stamp set and the banner is from the Number of Years stamp set offered by Stampin’ Up!  The background piece was created using a stamp in the Timeless Textures stamp set.

Lost Lagoon, Soft Suede and Very Vanilla card stock are the colors used on this card.

Traveler – Shaving Cream Technique

Originally posted on July 27, 2014

Dog lover – that would be me! I have two sweet dogs that greet my friends (in other words they bark and work as my doorbell!). One of them recently had to have surgery and tomorrow he gets his staples out! Woo Hoo! We get to start walking again! I love those early morning walks, they are so peaceful. The cool morning air is so refreshing and the birds are still in the mood to sing!

Here’s my doggies!

Today I am sharing with you two cards and a gift card holder I created. I used the shaving cream technique to create background pieces for each card. It’s a technique that has been around for a long time, but very fitting for these cards.

Shaving Cream Technique

  • Shaving cream – I used the Dollar Store variety!
  • Ink refill – any color will work. I used Pacific Point on the cards. With the gift card holder I also added Night of Navy ink.
  • Container to hold shaving cream – I used a 8 x 8 tin from the Dollar Store.

  1. I shook the can of shaving cream according to can instructions.
  2. Then I sprayed about a 1 inch thickness of cream over the entire bottom of tin.
  3. I then used my bone folder to smooth out the shaving cream – like frosting a cake! You could use a spatula, knife, etc. to smooth out the cream. Don’t worry if it’s not perfectly smooth.
  4. Next I dropped ink onto the shaving cream. The number of drops is up to you, it will depend on the coverage of ink you want. (You can always add more)
  5. You will now begin to move the ink through the shaving cream. Toothpicks work well to do this. The pattern you design is also up to you. I swirled my ink around because I wanted to try and achieve a look that would remind you of water.
  6. Take a piece of Whisper White cardstock and lay in onto the shaving cream. Press gently to pick up the ink and cream. Pull the paper from the cream and remove the shaving cream. I used a ruler and ran it along my cardstock – I had to do this several times to get all the shaving cream off. (I did clean the ruler in between.) If you want more ink on the paper just dip the paper in again!
  7. You can make more background pieces using the same “batch”. All your backgrounds will look different.
  8. Lastly, but most importantly – have fun!
