Sitting Here – Watercooler Wednesday Challenge

My craft room had been disassembled because we had our carpet cleaned. And, since  everything was out I decided to purchase a large closet and totally rearrange how I had my craft supplies stored.  It’s amazing the things you find when you tidy up!  Now that things are back together I can finally sit down and stamp!!!

As I was looking for a card layout I found a great one on the Watercooler Wednesday Challenge.  This week’s challenge was a sketch challenge hosted by Deborah Smart.  There are some wonderful samples for our eyes to feast on, but one stood out to me created by Heidi Weaver so I thought I better give this challenge a try!   This card features the Sitting Here stamp set.  Complementing sets are Timeless Textures and Sheltering Tree.

Sitting Here My Tanglewood Cottage

This is a layout I will be trying again sometime soon.  Thanks Deborah for the inspiration!

Washi Wednesday – Celebrating Independence

Today’s Washi Wednesday card is a reminder of July 4th, the day we celebrate the birth of American independence.   Cities across America  celebrate with parades as a reminder of our freedoms and to honor those who have given of themselves for our country.  Families and friends gather to reconnect and enjoy barbecued hamburgers and hotdogs.  And many go to see the fireworks that bring the skies to life with colors of the rainbow.  A time of celebration for sure!

Washi Wednesday Celebrating Independence Card

I chose the traditional red, white and blue colors for my card.  The Floral Boutique Designer Washi Tape coordinates perfectly with the Cherry Cobbler, Whisper White, and Night of Navy card stocks.

Washi Tape Timeless Textures Watercolor Wings My Tanglewood Cottage

The top butterfly is stamped using stamps from Watercolor Wings and then die cut with the smallest Butterflies Thinlits die.  A Cherry Cobbler small butterfly is cut using a die from the Bold Butterfly Framelits to layer behind the top butterfly.

Timeless Textures, Watercolor Wings, Flora Boutiique Designer Washi Tape, mytanglewoodcottage.net

The flourish from the Timeless Textures stamp set is stamped in Dapper Denim.  The greeting is from Confetti Celebration – a perfect fit for this card!

I hope you have a lot of fun celebrating this 4th of July!  Until next time, happy stamping!

Washi Tape Wednesday – Rose Wonder

Welcome to another Washi Tape Wednesday!  I made this card in less than 10 minutes today!  I had the die cut ready to go already, since I had made a card a while back using the Rose Garden Thinlits.  I went to find the post where I shared the card, but apparently I never did!  Looks like I will have to get a photo of it and share it with you!!

Washi Tape, Rose Wonder, Rose Garden Thinlits, mytanglewoodcottage.net

The die cut rose is sponged with Pumpkin Pie, Daffodil Delight and Wild Wasabi inks.  Layered behind the rose is the Playful Palette Designer Washi Tape.  The greeting is from the Rose Wonder photopolymer stamp set from Stampin’ Up!  Everything is layered on a 3 3/4″ x 5″ piece of Whisper White card stock and then raised with Stampin’ Diminsionals on the Whisper White card base.

You could easily make this card with a solid colored piece of card stock instead of a sponged piece like I used for the rose; and use your choice of DSP washi tape.  If you don’t have washi tape you could use ribbon or strips of card stock.

Thank you for stopping by!  Inky fingers to you!

Wacky Watercooler Blog Hop – New Annual Catalog Favorites

Wacky Watercooler Blog Hop

It’s time for another Wacky Watercooler Blog Hop.  This time we are sharing some of our favorites things from the new annual Stampin’ Up! Catalog.  We will be sharing our favorite new In- color, new stamp set/bundle, and Designer Series Paper.  This hop will inspire your socks off!

About the Blog Hop:  This is a circular Blog Hop. That means that wherever you begin, if you continue to go to the “next” blog on the list, you will eventually wind up right where you first started. You will find the “next” button (and the “previous” button if you want to go backwards) at the end of this post. The “home” button will give you a listing of all participating blogs.

If you have been moving forward through the Wacky Watercooler Blog Hop you would have arrived here after visiting Kath Rick’s blog, “All That Scap”.  Kath is so gifted and always has such fun projects.  I bet you were inspired by what she shared with you.

My Favorite In-Color

This was such a hard decision to make because I really do like them all, so I just decided on Flirty Flamingo.

Sunshine Sayings, Sunshine Wishes, My Tanglewood Cottage

This shaker card was actually pretty quick to make, and easy.  I will be putting written instructions for this card in my tutorials or you can click here.  I have to tell you I love the new Foam Adhesive Strips.  They bend so nicely that it was a dream to make this shaker card!

My Favorite New Stamp Set/Bundle

If I thought making a decision about the new In-Colors was tough, I was in trouble because I really do love so many of our new sets/bundles.  So, I chose to use a bundle I had not played with yet – the Best of Birds and Birds & Blooms Thinlits Dies.

Best Birds Birds & Blooms Thinlits Dies, Vintage Leaves, Leaflets Framelits, Woodland Embossing Folder, My Tanglewood Cottage

I also used the Vintage Leaves, Leaflets Framelits, and the Woodland Embossing Folder.  To color the bird I used colored pencils and then applied baby oil to a q-tip to blend the colors.

Favorite Designer Series Paper

I have to be honest, this was an easy choice, since I have only ordered one DSP pack – the Floral Boutique DSP.  The colors in the DSP are Night of Navy and Whisper White, but as you can see I’ve added a third color, Daffodil Delight to two of the three banners.  I simply took a maker and colored in a portion of the image.   This DSP is so pretty I’m looking forward to using it again.

Birthday Blooms, Detailed Floral Thinlits, Floral Boutique DSP My Tanglewood Cottage

I love the new Detailed Floral Thinlits too so I just had to incorporate one of the dies in a card to share with you!  And I had to pull out one of my favorite sets from the January Occasions catalog Birthday Blooms because I love to color and just love that flower stamp!  (I’m so glad that set made it in the new catalog.)  AND, yes I got to fussy cut too!

Did I choose any of your favorite things to share with you?  I hope so!

Thank you for stopping by, it now time for you to see what Priscilla has to share with you.  Hold onto your socks and get ready to be inspired!  Happy Hopping!

Washi Tape Wednesday – Love You

After a very noisy thunderstorm today, you know the kind that the thunder shakes and windows and you can feel it in the floor, that kind of thunderstorm, I worked on another Washi Tape card for you today.

I was definitely challenged when I made this card, it was way out of my comfort zone because I covered almost half the card with Washi Tape.  And my creative juice just wasn’t flowing today.

What I had envisioned  in my head did not turn out so I just kept trying something else.  This card was originally going to be a Fourth of July card, which didn’t turn out, then a birthday card, which also didn’t turn out.  Finally I made a love you card!  This is what I ended up with.

Washi Tape Youve Got This Mytanglewoodcottage 2

The hearts are popped up and add some dimension to the card.

Washi Tape Youve Got This Mytanglewoodcottage

The Floral Boutique Designer Washi Tape is so pretty. I know I will be using it on more cards.

I used two different dies sets, the Sunshine Wishes Thinlits set and the Hello You Thinlits for the words love and you.

Thank you for stopping by.  Until next time, happy stamping!

Washi Tape Wednesday – It’s A Butterfly

Are you ready for another Washi Tape Wednesday?  I’ve been having a lot of fun learning how to incorporate Washi Tape in my card creations.

This next card was inspired my one of my consultants, Kathy Brown.  She made a beautiful card using the Butterfly Thinlits and Washi Tape, so I had to give it a try.

Drum roll please……

Washi Tape, Butterfly, Birthday Celebration, Rose Wonder, mytanglewoodcottage.net

To make this butterfly I simply laid the Washi Tape in a row on a piece of card stock, placed my Butterfly Thinlit Die on the card stock covered with the tape and ran it through the Big Shot.  The Washi Tape I used was from my old stash with the exception of the polka-dot black which was from the Playful Palette Designer Washi Tape collection.

The dandelion was stamped in Pool Party and Old Olive and randomly stamped over Whisper White card stock.  The greeting is from the Rose Wonder set.

Have you been playing with Washi Tape lately?  Leave me a comment and let me know how you’ve been using it.

Thanks for stopping by!  Until next time get your fingers inky and stamp!

Washi Tape Wednesday – Swirly Bird

What a mad dash to the finish line I have been experiencing this week.  My daughter-in-law who is a talented artisan (who makes the most amazing jewelry) is having a Tumbled Stands event here at my home this week-end.

We decided to have garden event which meant I needed to weed, re-bark mulch, power wash the deck, mow, trim the poor roses (and they are poor!)…and the list goes on!  I’m down to the wire with a lot to do yet!

But, I promised another Washi Tape Wednesday.

Washi Tape Wednesday Card ~

Swirly Bird, Washi Tape @ mytanglewoodcottage.net

This card was so easy to make.  I simply decided on the order of the Playful Palette Designer Washi Tape and wrapped it across the 5″ x 3 3/4″ Whisper White panel.  Next I stamped several of the next to smallest scribble and the flower from the Swirly Bird stamp set several times and die cut them out.   I stamped a single bird and fussy cut it out.  I layered all this over the “wavy” scribble die cut and the medium circle die cut scribble.

The words are from the new Thoughtful Banners stamp set.  The card is finished off with a Baker’s Twine white ribbon.

Washi Tape Wednesday – Playful Palette

I have a confession.  I have had a hard time using washi tape.  I have rolls of it in my drawers – unused rolls!  Well, it is time for me to break out that tape and overcome my fear.  It’s time to learn how to use washi tape!  So, I am hoping to share some cards made using washi tape over the next several weeks.  Thus, Washi Tape Wednesday!

For this card I used the Playful Palette Designer Washi Tape.  I love the colors in this bundle of Blushing Bride, Emerald Envy, Peekaboo Peach, Sweet Sugarplum, and Basic Black.  To me this bundle is fun and sassy!

Swirly Bird Washi My Tanglewood Cottage

Don’t you just love that little bird.  He’s from the Swirly Bird Stamp Set

Washi Tape Tutorial

This card is super easy to make and I put together a tutorial for you so you can use up your Washi Tape.  (I hope I’m not the only one who has rolls and rolls sitting in their drawers!)

From Land to Sea – Salted Background Technique

I love going to aquariums and peering through the windows at all the sea life the Lord has created.  I especially love the jelly fish with their delicate tentacles floating in the water.  It’s no wonder I was drawn to the From Land to Sea set from Stampin’ Up!

The card I am sharing with you today was inspired by Heidi Weaver’s card (view it here).  I really loved her layout and positioning of her jelly fish and of course the turtle so I had to CASE (copy and share everything) her gorgeous card!  I changed it up a bit using different colors,  by making a different background, and using a thinlit for the greeting.  I also used rhinestones rather than a stamp for the air bubbles.

From Land to Sea My Tanglewood Cottage

Don’ you just love the From Land to Sea stamp set?

To create the background:

To create the background I sponged Pool Party, Bermuda Bay, Pacific Point and then Elegant Eggplant inks onto water color paper.  As I sponged on the ink I blended them together.  Next I heavily sprayed the paper with water so the inks would blend together even more.  Once the paper was wet I sprinkled kosher salt onto the paper and then let it dry.

Once it was dry I  remove all salt crystals.  (You can do this by using your hands, a paper towel, or the edge of a piece of scrap card stock.)  You will notice a haze of salty water, this just adds to the beauty of your background.

The salt background is an easy and fun technique – give it a try.

I wanted to mention before you go…if you are interested int the Greetings Thinlits Dies which I used for this card, they are retiring.  You only have until May 31, 2016 or while supplies last.  You can purchase the dies at my online store simply by click on the icon below.

Going, going and almost gone – you have until May 31st!

I debated on so many different retiring products to share with you, because there are a lot I will miss.  I decided on the Cups & Kettles Framelits dies that coordinate with the A Nice Cuppa stamp set because this set was only available for a short period of time and you only have a few days left to get it if you want it.  Just about everyone I know loves tea so this is a perfect Suite for me.

Oh, I almost forgot…I also am using Greeting Thinlits which I also am sad to see go.  I love the fact they are such a perfect size for most cards.

When I first began working on this card I had found a water color tutorial online I wanted to try out.  Well, let’s just say I was unsuccessful in achieving the background I wanted to create!  So, I experimented with some sponging and then stamped soft colors over the sponged card stock.

Sponging My Tanglewood Cottage

I started by sponging and blending Daffodil Delight, Rose Red, Wild Wasabi, and Pacific Point onto the card stock.

Sponging stamping

Next I inked up several stamps from the Timeless Textures set (which is not retiring, yahoo!) with Soft Sky ink and stamped images randomly over the sponged background.

Cups Kettles A Nice Cuppa My Tanglewood Cottage

Here is my finished “going, going, and almost gone” card!

Masculine Card

This next card features the Open Sea stamp set which is also retiring, along with the retiring World Map background stamp.  I am truly sorry to see these two go.  I have used both so many times to make masculine cards.

I added a sneak-peak product which is FABULOUS –  it’s the Swirly Scribbles Thinlits!  Gotta have a sea for the ship to sail on!

Open Sea My Tanglewood Cottage

Lots of fussy cutting with this card,
which is something I love to do.

Open Sea 3 My Tanglewood Cottage

Also a lot of coloring on this card, another thing I like to do!

Open Sea 2 My Tanglewood Cottage

Sneak-peak

As demonstrators we were given a selection of pre-order products to choose from, one was the Swirly Bird Suite.  This next card features the Suite and several in-colors which are so pretty.  I used the Peekaboo Peach, Flirty Flamingo, and Emerald Envy new colors to share with you.

Swirly Bird My Tanglewood Cottage

I hope you were inspired today and that you take time to get your “stampin” on!
